Dunedin Storm Chasing | Dunedin Wedding Photographer

There is one thing that I love doing and that’s storm chasing.  While we don’t get the amazing storms like they do out west, Florida gets some pretty intense storms.  My favorite is when they come from the west, headed inland.  Watching these clouds headed in across the beach is just beautiful.  Some may not think so but I do.

Last summer I grabbed some amazing lighting pictures and I can’t wait for the true summer storms to head in.  While yes, chasing lightning probably isn’t the smartest thing to do, especially since we live in the lightning capital of the US, but when you get images like this…it’s hard not to watch out for the lightning.

Image from last July (this image and some of my other lightning shots are available for purchase >here<

Saturday afternoon, I watched the radar all day.  Tossing back and forth on whether or not I was going to head out.  Great storm coming northwest and I knew there was going to be a great wall of clouds so I decided to head out.  I’m glad I did.  While I didn’t get any lightning strikes, there was just too much rain and it was all behind it, I did get some amazing storm shots and did my first time lapse.

Don’t judge the time lapse (haha)  This was my first one and I learned a lot with this one and really CAN NOT wait to do the next one.  (hello Mother Nature, are you listening?  Good.)

So enjoy and be sure to check back throughout the summer because there WILL be more!

Pay It Forward – St. Petersburg | St. Pete Wedding Photographer

Last week a friend of mine, Kole Hillman, was following Hidden Cash St. Pete on Twitter.  If you aren’t familiar with what Hidden Cash does, in a nut shell, this person hides cash around the Tampa Bay area, then tweets out clues on where it’s hidden.  The catch if you find it, you have to pay it forward, some how, some way.  Kole started thinking about how she could pay it forward and the thought came to her about heading down to Mirror Lake in St. Petersburg and feeding the homeless.

She did what most would do and turned to social media.  She created an event, tweeted about it and it caught my eye.  Jacob has been asking me about how we can help the homeless and this was perfect!  I’ll admit it, I’m real good at sitting behind a computer and saying that I’m going to do this or do that but this?  This was amazing.  In 4 days, Kole got 10-12 of us together, food (all the food was bought out of the pockets of the people that volunteered) and here we were at Mirror Lake on Saturday morning ready to feed anyone that came by.

At first it was a little slow so one of the girls got in Kole’s truck, started driving around and bringing everyone to us.  To listen to their stories, listen to how things happened, really puts into perspective that my life isn’t all that bad.  I stress about things on a daily basis, whether it’s personal or business but these people?  They stress about where their next meal is coming from or where they are going to be able to sleep that night.  It really puts all my little problems into perspective.

At the end of the afternoon, we started talking about how this needs to be a monthly thing.  Pay it forward.  Do something for someone else for a change.  Get out from behind the computer and make a difference.  The PB&J sandwich was great for these people, but they need/want people to listen to what they need.  Kole and I noticed one guy in a hard hat, safety glasses and steel toes boots…he was ready to work at a drop of a hat.  Another lady that had been staying in tent city but was scared because she was a woman.  These are things that you don’t think of.

So if you would like to join us next month, you can join the event on Facebook.  Right now it’s tentatively scheduled for July 5 but we will change the date on the event if needed.

If you can’t make it and would like to donate to the Go Fund Me that was set up to help fund these events, you can do so >here<  A huge shout out to Hidden Cash St. Pete for retweeting, sharing and helping us make Saturday possible!

Hidden Cash said there would be a special drop around the park.

Lena went on the hunt when it was posted and she ran into Trevor (pictured with Lena), he asked what was going on, she told him and then told him she would split it with him if she found it. Well she found it! $200!! So we walked back over so she could give him his “cut” lol Now that is paying it forward! The other half? She’s using it to buy socks for the next #payitforward event
